Phoenix Area House Churches Newsletter
News from the home-front of the house church movement in Phoenix, AZ.

Greetings!
We have now enjoyed several straight days of 110+ degrees. But you say its a dry heat, right? When its this hot it really wears on most people. Many people take off for the weekends to escape the heat to places north like Flagstaff or Payson. If you do that, pray that God will give you opportunities to meet people and share the Good News of Jesus Christ. And that the you get the chance to share your experiences in house church.

Speaking of going to cooler places, Sue and I spent a great week in the beautiful Monterrey, CA area. If you are looking for a very cool place to go that is relatively un-crowded, compared to Southern California, I highly recommend that area. But was it ever hard to come back to the heat!

Help me to locate other house churches in the Phoenix area. I know that there has to be more out there that I don't know about but many of you may know of them. If you know of a group that is not listed on the house churches page of the website, please ask them to contact me to get them on there and to get them subscribed to the the newsletter. Thanks in advance for your help.

Prayer Requests
From the Phoenix house churches
Please remember these requests during your daily prayers:

- From Doreen at Jesus Cares Ministries: "my brother has just informed me that he has renounced the Lord. He is having tremendous bouts with panic attacks. He believes God is unjust and states that he will never serve Him again. He is losing his mind. There is a generational curse of insanity in the family that hits the men at this age. (None of them were believers) He called upon the Lord as a teenager, but has been confused and dismayed most of his life. I would appreciate the prayer of agreement for these curses to be broken and for his heart to be set free to worship the Lord. Thank you to all of you who will stand with me. His name is Thom. thanks for the prayer."
- For a member of Sonlight Home Church in Surprise, Jessica and her sons, Alexander and Joshua. Pray for their financial and health needs. There is an immediate financial need to help with the monthly rent. If you can help in any way, contact Rich Kraemer.
- For the safety and health for the team from The Gathering on their trip to Phillipines and Taiwan. Pray that much fruit for the Kingdom will come from their work.
- For the 16 year old daughter of one of our brothers to come to Christ.
- For house churches in Phoenix to continue to connect with each other for edification, accountability, and fellowship.
- For the continued success of the Alpha group being taught by Darrell of Big House.
- For God's direction for Henry and Cindy of East Valley Grace after the closing of the sale of their townhouse.
- For an East Valley Grace family who needs the head of the family to come to Christ and for a job that will provide for their needs.
- For John and Debbie of East Valley Grace while John is away in school. For John as he leads a new Bible study each Saturday night at Lion's World Services for the Blind in Little Rock, Arkansas.
- Pray the Luke 10:2b prayer and ask God to send more workers into His harvest field. Ask Him to send the house churches of Phoenix into His harvest field.

If you have a prayer request that you would like to send to the Phoenix Area House Churches, please send an email to me and I will be glad to send it out with a newsletter.

More Christians Moving From Traditional Services Toward Home Churches

By MICHAEL ALISON CHANDLER and ARIANNE ARYANPUR

WASHINGTON - After Sunday dinner at Joe Rodgers' Rockville, Md., home, guests adjourn to the living room for church.

In his makeshift chapel, wooden kitchen stools and a floral print couch act as pews, a portable keyboard substitutes for an organ and the host, an electronics technician by day, serves as pastor. But just as there is no formal name or dress code for this church, there is no sermon or pastor-led prayer. When it came time to bow their heads on a recent May evening, each of the 10 adults in attendance had something to contribute: One man prayed for success with his new fitness program; another sought guidance as he prepared for his upcoming marriage.

The worshipers have different faith backgrounds, including evangelical, Episcopalian and Catholic. What they share is a dissatisfaction with traditional church services.

"You can't ask questions in most churches. You might make an appointment with the pastor, get in his daybook for a quick lunch," said Rodgers, 50.

A growing number of Christians around the country are moving to home churches - both as a way to create personal connections in the age of the megachurch and as a return to the blueprint of the Christian church spelled out in the New Testament, which describes Jesus and the apostles teaching small groups in people's homes.

Things are quiet on the home front during the summer here in Arizona. But there are things being planned for the fall and they will be upon us before we know it.

Please continue to communicate what is going on with your group and what you are planning. We all need to encourage each other by staying networked. Please communicate and communicate often.
